Old Quarter Hanoi, Hoa Lo Prison & Vietnamese Women’s Museum

Yesterday when we check in we inquiry about taxi service to airport and they said they have with a metered one around 100baht. But in the morning the guy that came to our room told that it’s difficult to find taxi in early morning and they can help to call a taxi but with 150baht unmetered. What’s for the information we give before about schedule if they just came with an excuses like that. It’s sums up that this property will trick you with everything they can. Avoid at all.
Arrive in Don Mueang airport, smooth check in, long queue at the immigration, little bumpy flight and arrive at Noi Bai International Airport. We’ve been pickup by hotel transfer service, it cost 18usd from airport to hotel.
Old Quarter Hanoi
We stay at Skyline Hotel at the old quarter area, they early check in. After rest a moment we going stroll around the old quarter.
Album below is a various photo taken at old quarter area in three days we are in Hanoi.
Hoa Lo Prison
From lunch at Pho10 in Ly Cuoq Su road, then to St.Joseph Cathedral, continue to Hoa Lu prison with 30k vnd entrance fee.
The name Hoa Lo, commonly translated as “fiery furnace” or even “Hell’s hole”, also means “stove”. The name originated from the street name phố Hỏa Lò, due to the concentration of stores selling wood stoves and coal-fire stoves along the street from pre-colonial times.
Hỏa Lò Prison was a prison used by the French colonists in Vietnam for political prisoners, and later by North Vietnam for U.S. Prisoners of War during the Vietnam War. During this later period it was sarcastically known to American POWs as the Hanoi Hilton. The prison was demolished during the 1990s, though the gatehouse remains as a museum.
Vietnamese Women Museum
Then go to Vietnamese Women’s Museum, also with 30k vnd entrance fee.
Vietnamese Women’s Museum is located in Hanoi, in Ly Thuong Kiet Street, near the central Hoan Kiem Lake and the old quarter. This is the most ancient street in the capital city, with many French-style buildings, foreign embassies, hotels and government offices. The museum opened to public in 1995 and had been renovated between 2006 and 2010. This Museum is dedicated to the Vietnamese Women. More than 1000 materials, photos and objects displayed in the permanent exhibition show the role the Vietnamese women played in the History and currently play in Arts and in the Family life. The museum also organizes thematic exhibitions to show changes and development of the contemporary society.
Then continue to French quarter, after that to Hoa Kiem Lake and before back to hotel we have a ate at street food in the old quarter.
Back to hotel, refresh then go out again at 7.30pm for have a dine. Old quarter in the night is very crowded like Bali. Many street seller selling food and lot of pub and cafe open with his chair positioned up to front yard with their customer relation girl keep inviting quess come by.
After stroll around and not fitted with any of the spot we decide to have a fine dining at Green Tangerine which recommended by hotel and few of review we read. Both of us ordered Rabbit Stew and Duck Roast, quite expensive the food price at here, it cost us over 1mio vnd for two main course and a mineral water.
Finish up back to hotel rest for tommorow trip to Halong Bay.
