Sun Island and Int’l Sclupture Festival

Winters can be harsh in Heilongjiang, China’s most northeastern province, bordering Siberian Russia.

The residents of Harbin, Heilongjiang’s capital, brighten the long, frigid months by carving fantastical frozen sculptures for the International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival that takes place in January and February.

The Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival is an annual winter festival that takes place with a theme in Harbin, Heilongjiang, China, and now is the largest ice and snow festival in the world. At first participants in the festival were mainly Chinese, however it has since become an international festival and competition. The festival includes the world’s biggest ice sculptures.

Hostel sold the ticket at dicounted price from 330yuan normal price into 280yuan. To go there we take the bus no.47 from the nearest bus stop. The bus will take you to the main road entrance of the festival area, the bus stop is called Tai Yang Dao Dhou Dhou Ko. From there their will be a white shuttle van with red word at the body of the car that will take you to the entrance gate which is about 2km away. You can buy the ticket also from here and it’s already include the shuttle van return trip.

Ice and Snow World

From Sun Island and Int’l Sclupture Festival the shuttle will take us back again from exit gate to the main road where we continue walk to Ice & Snow World (Bingxue Da Jie), it’s not far from the main road where we get off, about 300mtr.

This place is recommended and better go at night where all the ice sclupture will be lit by colourfull LED. First built in 1999 by government to welcome the new millennium 2000, Harbin Ice and Snow World is the main venue of Harbin Ice and Snow Festival. With the development of 16 years, it becomes the largest ice and snow amusement park in the world with an area of 600,000 square meters.

In every year, one different theme will be set in Harbin Ice and Snow World. According to the theme, different buildings will be constructed. As you enter into Ice and Snow World, you will be amazed by such a wonder-like park from block of ice and snow. These sculptures are often record-breaking in size. Some structures are over three stories high and show very intricate designs. The scenery in front of you is so mind-blowing and visually magnificent, making a highlight of you China trip during winter.
