Nijo Castle, Ninnaji Temple, Kinkakuji Temple, Kiyomizudera Temple & Higashiyama

Japan, Kyoto   /   Tags: , ,

Today morning we want to explore Kyoto City. Taking a Shinkasen from Nagoya to Kyoto at 8:21 for 52 minutes. Arive at Kyoto Station we straight heading to Piece Hostel Kyoto for drop our luggage before continuing sightseeing aroung city.

To make sure that our direction is right we keep asking officer in there cause its pain walk if we walk the opposite direction and carrying a big luggage.

Get out from station to Hachidory side to the left walking toward the red light we already see the hostel from afar, their sign at building indicated its cross the street. Pass the intersection and turn right into small alley walk for about 5 minute already arrive there.

This hostel is new, the design and condition is still clean and fresh. There’s a lot of people already there. We inform them to keep our luggage and they ask us to put a name in a tape and time when we will come back,

Nijo Castle

Our first destination is Nijo Temple, a UNESCO Heritage list. Going there we take subway Karasuma Line and continue to Tozai line get off at Nijojomae train station. Before that we buy a One day sightseeing combination card for 1.200 yen, it’s valid for all bus and subway in Kyoto area coverage. Its easy to use, just put in the machine at subway gate ot bus for the first time and it will be printed a date back of the card. After that just show to the bus driver the back of the card that showing the date. I think its better to get bus pass only for 500 yen since most of the major sighseeing in Kyoto is located far from the subway line.

Arrive at Nijo castle we paid entrance fee for 600 yen, Go inside the paviliun is prohibited to take a phorography. Just one hour we finished up there and continue with bus to Ninnaji Temple that also a UNESCO Heritage list.

Ninnaji Temple

From Nijo we continue to Ninnaji temple by bus, this place is also a World Heritage list by UNESCO, before we going in we take a lunch around there, it’s called Family Kitchen with logo seems like a banner flag for One Piece cartoon :), We order curry rice. This place allowed to take photograph.

Kinkakuji Temple

The next to Kinkakuji Temple, known for its name a Golden Pavillion, cause of the gold colour in its building, the entrace fee is a litlle cheap than before, it’s only 400 yen each person. Not so big compare to other makes our trip in this place is not long. Not forget we had another ice cream again in here, my wife had a matcha ice cream with red bean and my self trying a new flavour, its sesame. I think the taste like Mochi with black rice glutten.

Kiyomizudera Temple

From Kinkakuji we continue take a bus to Ginkakuji Temple, after get down from bus and just before we arrive at the place, my self check again the itinerary and i found out that Kiyomizudera Temple that i set for night is wrong cause Spring Illumination has already pass the periode, only mid March to mid April. After quick thinking we cut the whole itinerary again for the rest and we skip Ginkakuji Castle, Philosopher Path, Nannenzi Temple and Yasaka Shrine for Kiyomizudera Temple since its already 4:00 PM and the temple will be closed at 6:00 PM.

Higashiyama District

Take the bus 100 and get down at Kinkakuji-Michi Mae we pass the Higashiyama district, an alley with lot of store selling anything ranging from snack, food, souvenir, etc. Also we notice that many girl wearing a kimono, but they all are not Maiko or Geisha cause they not wear a white tick makeup in their face.
At Kiyomizudera we spend our time there this close time and take a walk at neigbhourhood.

Tonight we dine at Porta Mall near Kyoto Station, combo again that for me is two portion. One bowl of ramen big slice of pork and a plate of fried rice with 4 wonton. Same menu for my wife but with chicken dunk instead of wonton. Finishing dine we take a walk at the mall looking for SK2 counter, but we didnt find and we decide to go back to hostel since we already tired and my ankle is in pain.
